Motorola is betting big on artificial intelligence with its expanded Moto AI platform, now available across its new Razr smartphone lineup. The company’s partnership with Perplexity brings advanced AI search capabilities directly to users’ pockets, while new AI features aim to simplify information management and enhance productivity. This integration represents Motorola’s strategy to differentiate itself in the competitive smartphone market through exclusive AI functionality.

The big picture: Motorola is integrating its Moto AI platform across its new Razr smartphone lineup while partnering with Perplexity to provide advanced AI search capabilities.

  • The new lineup includes three models: Razr Ultra ($1,299.99), Razr+ ($999.99), and standard Razr ($699.99), all featuring Moto AI integration.
  • These devices will be available for preorder on May 7 and officially release on May 15, 2025.

Key partnership details: Motorola is teaming with AI company Perplexity to pre-install their app on all new Motorola devices, including Razr and Edge 60 models.

  • New device owners will receive three months of Perplexity Pro for free, normally priced at $20 per month.
  • The premium subscription includes deep research capabilities, access to advanced AI models (Sonar, Claude 3.5 Sonnet, and GPT-4o), Pro Shopping features, and unlimited file uploads.

Exclusive integrations: The Motorola-Perplexity partnership features custom integrations designed to enhance smartphone functionality.

  • Users can access Perplexity directly through Moto AI by typing “Ask Perplexity.”
  • A dedicated Perplexity Assistant can perform various tasks like sending emails, setting smart reminders, playing media, requesting rides, and booking restaurant reservations.

Standout features: Motorola’s Moto AI includes four major productivity features aimed at simplifying information management.

  • “Catch Me Up” creates digestible summaries of recent notifications when users are overwhelmed with updates.
  • “Remember This” functions as a virtual journal where users can save and retrieve important information like addresses through voice commands.
  • “Pay Attention” works as an AI-powered recorder for meetings, generating transcripts and extracting key points.
  • “Next Move” analyzes screen content to predict which apps users might want to access next, including on the Razr’s external display.

Hardware integration: Motorola’s flagship Razr Ultra features a dedicated Moto AI button for easier access to AI functionality.

  • The Moto AI platform was initially introduced in late 2024 as an open beta on previous Razr models and the Edge 50 Ultra.
